Book Whale Watching
From late July until the end of October, there is no place like Hervey Bay on Australia’s east coast for breathtaking, up close and personal encounters with Majestic humpback whales
Each year, thousands of east coast humpbacks break their migration journey from the Antarctic to the northern tropics in the calm, shallow waters off Hervey Bay by K’gari (formerly Fraser Island) to rest, play and socialise. Hervey Bay was accredited in 2019 as the world’s first Whale Heritage Site and has been scientifically recognised as a rare stopover site for these migrating humpback whales. This makes it an eco-experience uniquely different from any other whale watching destination along the east coast of Australia (and the world).
These intelligent and inquisitive creatures utilise the calm, subtropical waters of Platypus Bay to rest, relax and nurse their young, before heading back to their feeding grounds in Antarctica for summer. Bouncing back from the brink of extinction, Hervey Bay’s unique connection with humpback whales has blossomed over decades of eco-tourism in the area. Proudly known as Australia’s whale watching capital, we truly are the best place for an up-close and personal experience with these gentle giants.
With a fleet of specially designed vessels offering eco-certified, intimate encounters during the annual season between July and November you can have an up-close encounter with these incredible creatures that you won’t find anywhere else in the world.
