Freedom Ecotours provides premium, 3/4 day whale-watching cruises (July-October), summertime cruises and private charters.

The Freedom Premium Whale Watch Cruise departs daily at 9:30 am (returning at 3.30pm) from Urangan Harbour during Hervey Bay’s peak whale-watching season from early July to early October. Hervey Bay is known as Australia’s whale-watching capital, being the first accredited Whale Heritage Site. Hundreds of humpback whales gather in the calm waters of Platypus Bay near K’Gari (Fraser Island), providing unparalleled opportunities to witness their playful behaviours, including breaching, pec-slapping, and rolling.

The guests often experience close encounters with curious whales approaching to investigate the boat and people onboard! This creates unforgettable moments. Expert commentary from the skipper and crew enriches the journey, offering insights into whale behaviour. The tour guarantees whale sightings, making it a must-do experience.

The season showcases different whale groups: playful juveniles arrive in July, followed by larger adults in August, and mothers with calves in September and October. This progression offers a deeper appreciation for the whales’ majesty and creates lasting memories.

Freedom Daydream - K'Gari cruise: swim, stroll and relax...

Relax aboard our comfortable 58ft catamaran, cruise through the pristine waters of the Great Sandy Straits Marine Park , anchoring off the pristine western beaches of K'gari. Swim, stroll, paddle, relax....

Departing Urangan Marina at 10.30am and returning at 3.30pm. Cruise the Great Sandy Straits and Platypus Bay to the western beaches of K'Gari and look out for dolphins and turtles in the water and stately pelicans on Pelican Bank. We drop anchor near a tree-lined, pristine beach and you have approximately 4 hours of free time. Choose to swim in our pool or the warm waters of Platypus Bay, take a tube ride, try a paddleboard or simply stroll on K'Gari and relax on the beach or boat.

Escape the sun in the air-conditioned saloon and enjoy your picnic with a glass of bubbles purchased from our licensed bar. Free filtered water, tea and coffee is available.

Freedom Twilight: K'gari Sunset and Starry Skies Cruise

Enjoy an evening cruise on Freedom with sunsets over the the pristine waters of the Great Sandy Straits Marine Park and K'Gari. With antipasto treats and a licensed bar, as twilight turns to night, the stars and Milky Way take the stage.

Experience the magic of a sunset and starry skies cruise in the breathtaking Great Sandy Straits Marine Park and K'Gari western beaches! Departing Urangan Marina between 5:00- 6:00pm and returning 2.5 hours later. Relax as the sun dips below the horizon, casting vibrant colours over the bay and the towering dunes are lit up in pinks and reds in the setting sun. On a cloudless night, watch as the planets and then stars slowly appear overhead. With little light pollution, the illumination is bright and stunning to see.

This serene, family-friendly cruise combines natural beauty with relaxation, ideal for romantic dates, photography enthusiasts, and stargazers alike.

Freedom III is our comfortable 58ft catamaran with three viewing decks, a great sound system, toilets and a spacious, air-conditioned saloon. Our experienced skipper and friendly crew will look after you and will serve antipasto treats and a chilled glass of bubbles, soda or beer purchased from our licenced bar.

Freedom III Whale Watch

Enjoy a full day tour with the Humpback Whales which call Hervey Bay home during their annual migration on board Freedom III, a 17 metre power catamaran.

While cruising the usually calm waters of the bay you will enjoy home baked treats for morning tea, a tropical buffet lunch and cheese and fruit platters for afternoon tea. Tea, coffee and filtered water is available all day.

Three levels of viewing means everyone gets a great experience plus the water level platform gets you even closer when the whales come to people watch. The hydrophone allows the chance of hearing the whalesong. Expert commentary is supplied by the skipper and the friendly crew will do their utmost to make your day as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.

Courtesy bus transfers are available from Hervey Bay accommodation but there is also free parking at the Marina if you prefer.
