Read MoreQueensland’s Fraser Coast is home to a wide range of outdoor adventure activities stretching across the entire region for visitors and locals to do.
Keen hikers can tackle one of Queensland’s most inspiring hikes on World Heritage-listed Fraser Island. The Great Walk is a long-distance trail, rated easy to moderate and is traversed in one direction from Dilli Village to Happy Valley, The landscape on the walk changes from coastal, mangrove, woodland to subtropical rainforest; crystal-clear lakes and sand dunes are highlights of the trek. For those seeking the ultimate wilderness adventure, grab your mates and pack the 4WD for some sand driving action. Traverse the famous 75 Mile Beach Highway, discover the Coloured Sands or Lake McKenzie, there are plenty of tour options available!
For a hinterland adventure, go bush walking, horse riding or mountain biking on country roads and old stock routes.
Wide open spaces, a beach highway that doubles as an airstrip, countless 4wding tracks and walking trails – Fraser Island (K’gari) is a must when you are itching for some outdoor adventure across the Fraser Coast. K’gari is full of rugged wildnerness that can be dinscovered whether you’re with a group of mates, you’ve got the whole family or you’re travelling solo.
Keen hikers can explore the world’s largest sand island and uncover all its incredible scenery and wildlife by embarking on the Fraser Island Great Walk. The entire 90km can take around 6 – 8 days to complete but if you’re not up to the level of committment, there are lots of shorter trails you can follow ranging from short strolls to a full day adventure.
Pack the 4wd and head for the barge, because Fraser Island is a mecca for 4wding action. The only vehicle access to get around this massive sand island is via four wheel drive and there’s lots of fun to be had whether you stick to the inland tracks or head along 75 Mile Beach – the sand highway that doubles as an airstrip. Make sure you always check those tides and sand conditions before you get started.
For the perfect outdoor adventure that can be done in a day trip, travel through the Fraser Coast hinterland where you’ll find a walk to Waterfall Creek Waterfalls – otherwise known by locals as Utopia. You can follow an easy 3km walk (return) to the rockpools where you can wander around or jump in for a dip to cool down. The best time to visit Utopia is after a good rainfall.
Get into some mountain biking action on the Fraser Coast around the trails of the Vernon State Forest. The Toogoom Mountain Bike Trail and Skills Park offers biking trails from easy right through to difficult so the whole gang can enjoy the fun. Toogoom is a short drive from the town of Hervey Bay and also offers some great coastal spots to enjoy while you’re there.
When it comes to outdoor adventure on the Fraser Coast, you can’t go past hitting the waters between Hervey Bay and Fraser Island. For the adrenalin junkies, jump on a jetski tour to Fraser Island to get the heart pumping. If you would rather sit back and take in the scenery and wildlife, there are a range of tours and hiring services departing from Hervey Bay to make it happen.
Beach lovers don’t have to look far on the Fraser Coast to find the perfect patch of sand to claim for the day. Whether it’s Hervey Bay’s 13 kilometere long esplanade packed with popular beaches and BBQ spots or the secluded spots on the Burrum Coast, we’ve got you sorted. A mild climate year round also means perfect beach weather, no matter when you’re visiting our region.
