A total 96 Fraser Coast operators received welcome news from TEQ this week – emails announcing they had been accredited as a Best of Queensland Experience Program business for 2021.

Sixty-two per cent of the 156 Fraser Coast operators assessed for the program were accredited as BOQE which is well above the state average of 47% (1595 or 3369 Queensland operators assessed).

The Fraser Coast BOQE percentage for operators assessed was below last year’s result of 75% accredited, but an additional 18 operators were added to the assessment pool this year.

FCTE general manager Martin Simons said the scores were a credit to the region’s operators and the high penetration of Best of Queensland Experiences showed the region had a large cohort of highly experienced tourism businesses which know their craft.

“This is underlined by 70% of Fraser Coast operators “consistently delivering an exceptional experience” based on positive guest reviews, compared to the State average of 61%,” he said.

Of the 96 Fraser Coast operators accredited as delivering Best of Queensland Experiences, 14 businesses recorded the best possible score of 100 points.

These included, Blue Dolphin, Hervey Bay Dive Centre, Tasman Venture, Whalesong Cruises, Fraser Dingo 4WD Adventures, Pacific Whale Foundation, Fraser Explorer Tours, Hervey Bay Eco Marine Tours, Discovery Parks Fraser Street, Best Western Plus Quarterdecks Retreat, Big 4 Point Vernon, Kingfisher Bay Resort, Fraser Island Day Tours with Kingfisher Bay and Hervey Bay Tourist Parks.

Beachcamp Eco Retreat on K’ gari-Fraser Island led the field with the highest ReviewPro score achieved for the region of 99.12, pipping Blue Dolphin’s Champagne Sunset Sail, Fraser Island Eco Adventure Sail and Exclusive Whale Encounter Tour, all on 98.82.

Fraser Coast Jetski Tours, Hervey Bay Dive Centre and Bamboo Nursery were all above 98 points, with the next group of marine products including Remote Fraser and Tasman Venture, the Boat Club’s array of adventure tours, three tours for Whalesong Cruises, Hervey Bay Whale Watch Quick Cat II and Freedom Whale Watch and Dive Charter all above 95.

Freshwater B’nB and Trinity Islands Caravan Park were best of the accommodation suppliers on GRI score with scores of 97.39 and 95.62 respectively. Lychee Hill Estate was also prominent in the food and drink category with a score of 95.37, Happy Days Diner (93.00) and the Dock, Hervey Bay (92.97).

The region’s highest rated attractions for delivering exceptional experiences were the Hervey Bay Historical Village and Museum, Brennan and Geraghty’s Store Museum and the Maryborough Military and Historical Museum.

Eighty-five per cent of accredited Fraser Coast operators are members of their Regional Tourism Organisation, compared with 68% state-wide.
