International Coastal Cleanup in Hervey Bay
What it's all about
The fun, the excitement
This year, Pacific Whale Foundation Australia is excited to host a beach cleanup as part of the International Coastal Cleanup on September 15th, 2018. This event began more than 30 years ago as a way of bringing communities together to clean up and document the rubbish littering their coastlines. Volunteers from more than 100 countries now come together every year to participate in a cleanup event in locations around the world. This event is a beacon of hope for our oceans, inspiring action in support of a healthier, cleaner marine ecosystem for our future.
To show our support, Pacific Whale Foundation Australia will be hosting a cleanup here in Hervey Bay! We will meet at 11:00am at the Scarness Jetty, located near Enzo’s on the Beach in Scarness. The cleanup will run for approximately 1 hour. After the cleanup, our staff will be heading over to Enzo’s on the Beach for a celebratory lunch or coffee, and to swap stories about ocean conservation. Participants are welcome to join us.
We request that participants bring their own gardening gloves (or similar), but we will provide bags for collecting rubbish.
We're thrilled to be able to participate in this global event, and we hope that you can join us! As our thank you to our volunteers, all participants will receive a 20% discount on any regular whalewatch, booked on the day of the cleanup.
Please download the Clean Swell app prior to the cleanup. We will be recording all of the goodies we collect:
