Illumination Parade and Concert

When: 4pm, Saturday, October 17

Where: Seafront Oval

The Illumination Lantern Parade and Concert celebrates the recognised home of the Humpback Whale, Hervey Bay.  The region comes alive to celebrate the annual migration of these majestic creatures with the Hervey Bay Whale Festival.

The Illumination Parade represents the annual migration of the humpback whales that return to Hervey Bay's pristine waters each year to rest and play. Hundreds of people line the streets while community groups, families and individuals carry lanterns that light up the street. They wind their way through to the Seafront Oval where the day will culminate with the Illumination Concert - featuring live entertainment.

Prizes are on offer for those with the most creative and exciting lanterns in this year’s Illumination Concert and Parade.

The 2015 theme, Celebrate the Sea, is designed to inspire the wondrous beauty of life in the ocean. With Hervey Bay’s close connection to the sand and salt, there are sure to be some fantastic marine inspired lanterns on display, so get creative!

Prize categories include the best lanterns made by a commercial business, school group, community group and the lantern that best fits the eco illumination theme. First prize starts at $350 for each category, with individuals and groups both encouraged to enter.

The Hervey Bay Regional Gallery will be hosting lantern making workshops in the lead up to the parade offering the perfect opportunity to express your creativity and create a dynamite lantern.

Start creating your lantern at the first workshop these school holidays on Thursday 1st October from 10am. Cost is $15 per person and bookings are essential via the Hervey Bay Regional Gallery on 07 4197 4206.
