Burrum Coast Discovery Trail

A short drive from Hervey Bay, the picturesque fishing villages of Burrum Heads and Toogoom offer kilometers of upspoilt beachfront. Stroll along soft, sandy beaches, collect fascinating shells, explore rivers and creeks by boat or canoe or just sit and watch the pelicans or some of the other 90 species of bird life that inhabit the area.

Coal Heritage Trail

Just off the Bruce Highway north of Maryborough is the small rural retreat of Aldershot, followed by former coal mining towns of Howard and Torbanlea, filled with country charm, old fashioned pubs and a number of important historical buildings, including the homes of a former Prime Minister and a Senator. The Burrum District Museum at Howard houses an impressive collection of mining memorabilia.

Esplanade Walk and Cycle Loop

Leave the car behind and walk, cycle or rollerblade along the beautiful Hervey Bay Esplanade. The 14 kilometers of shared pathway stretches from the Urangan Harbour at the eastern end of the city to Gatakers Bay in the west. You can tackle The Esplanade in one go, or you can break it up into smaller trips.

Rambling 'round the Mary Trail

The 'Rambling 'round the Mary Trail' is a special scenic section of the Bicentennial National Trail which follows the Mary River along much of the way. Covering ten kilometres, it is an enjoyable easy cycle, walk or horse ride and is suitable for families and beginner trekkers.

Tiaro Discovery Trail

If the rush of the city is not your scene and you long for the chance to catch your breath and take stock, then Tiaro and its surrounds are a must. Be careful though. Many a local came to the bush for a visit and never left! The Tiaro area is rich with natural beauty, alive with history and home to rare species including the Mary River turtle.

Wongi Waterholes Trail

A string of beautiful waterholes fringed by paperbarks and surrounded by eucalypt forest, exotic pine plantations and open woodland with a heath understorey make Wongi State Forest and Forest Reserve special places to visit. The waterholes are a golden brown colour from tannins leached from the paperbarks, reflections can often be seen in the still waters.

Woocoo West Discovery Trail

The western hinterland of the Fraser Coast is characterised by Mt Woocoo, rolling hills, sugar cane and pineapple farms, cattle stations and the small townships and settlements of Oakhurst, Mungar, Aramara, Brooweena and Teebar. The landscape is dominated by Mt Walsh and the surrounding National Park, with rugged bushland and spectacular exposed granite outcrops and cliffs.
